Sample report of a WhatsApp group

This is what you get when you analyze a group with Chat Recap. The group is made up, “Sopars i desastres 🍕”, but the report is real: 15,965 messages from 7 people went through the same analyzer as your chat.

A made-up group, a real report

To show the report without using anyone's conversation, we generate a fictional chat in the same format as an Android export. It runs from January 8, 2023 to September 29, 2025 and has 7 members with different habits: one who writes at night, one who only laughs, one who organizes everything. The messages are in Catalan, but the analysis works the same in English and Spanish.

That file goes through the file reader, the stats and the awards exactly like a real export. The figures on this page aren't typed by hand: they're computed every time we publish the site.

How to read the figures

The 15,965 messages count everything people send (text, photos, voice notes, links) but not system notices like “created the group” or “left”. This group averages 16 messages a day, and 24 on days when someone writes.

The ranking sorts by messages sent. Here Martí wins with 26% of the total, followed by Anna Puig (21%). Sending more messages isn't the same as writing more, so the report also shows each person's words and average length.

Activity is shown by hour, by day of the week and over time. If the group is years old, the chart shows the good times and the long silences.

How each award is decided

Each award is a simple rule applied to everyone; whoever scores highest wins. In the sample group:

  • 💬 The Chatterbox: whoever sends the most messages. Martí: 4,088 messages: 26% of the whole group.
  • 🌙 The Night Owl: the highest share of messages between 00:00 and 06:00. Joan 🦄: 17% of their messages arrive between 00:00 and 06:00.
  • ☀️ The Early Bird: the highest share between 06:00 and 09:00. Núria Çàrdenas: 12% of their messages arrive between 06:00 and 09:00.
  • 👑 The Leader: whoever revives the chat most often, that is, writes first after three hours of silence. Martí: Started 251 conversations, 25% of the total.
  • 📖 The Novelist: the longest messages on average. Núria Çàrdenas: 31 characters per message on average. Not even Tolstoy.
  • 😂 The Comedian: the highest share of messages with “haha”, “lol” or laughing emojis. Anna Puig: 1,539 messages with “hahaha”, “lol” or 😂.
  • 📅 The Organizer: the most messages about plans, days, times and places. Martí: 1,942 messages about plans, days, times and places.
  • 👻 The Ghost: whoever writes the least. Marc: Only 391 messages (2%). But they read everything, for sure.

So that nobody wins by chance with four messages, the share-based awards only count people who sent enough text: 2% of the group's messages, at least 3 and at most 20. There are more awards (photographer, podcaster, emoji royalty, the curious one, the one who deletes messages…) that only appear when the group has enough cases.

The AI part

The stats and awards are computed in your browser and are free. The optional AI analysis adds what numbers can't see: a profile of each person (superpower, kryptonite, typical lines), the big moments with dates, made-up awards backed by a quote, broken promises and the group's dictionary.

In this sample that part is text we wrote, since the group doesn't exist. With a real chat, the AI reads the conversation with pseudonyms instead of names and with no phone numbers, emails or links.
